Medical Office Management

The purpose of Medical Office Management is to prepare students for a career in Medical Office Administration.  Students will explore, learn, and apply skills related to office management and administration with an additional focus on medical terminology and health informatics.  This course is designed to teach students concepts and skills that will be applied in the management and administration of a medical office.  The course will focus on careers in the medical office environment, office management skills, patient billing and collections, patient/client service skills, ethics, medical terminology, and health information management.  This class also includes projects that involve cross curricular activities with mathematics, science, reading and writing.  Students will read and analyze medical/scientific charts and graphs and will discuss their findings in written form through essays.  Students will also learn how to use previous mathematic skills and build on those skills as they bill patients and work with other various mathematical functions in a medical office setting.
